Facebook & Myspace

Over the past few years Myspace has been over shadowed by Facebook, however both have a similar purpose.  Social Networking keeps people together.  They were designed to keep friends, friends after they no longer can see each other whether they move away got to college switch schools; social networks help those people stay connected.  They are a good way to express what you are up to and show some of your interests.  However both of these can be dangerous.  You need to check your privacy settings to stay safe and be careful of what you put up on these sites.  There have been numerous stories about bright kids losing acceptance or scholarships to schools.  It was obviously never meant to be a dangerous thing but you need to be careful.  Years ago teenagers could be stupid only to worry about how their parents would punish them if they got caught, it was also harder to get caught.  Today with all the technology people really need to worry about there future more than how their parents will punish them.  Facebook has emerged on top as the primary social network.  Today Myspace has almost disappeared off the face of the earth.  There are other uses to these networks than social.  As a business you can post advertisements and even make a page where people can check out your business and become a fan, or Like it.  There are so many possibilities for social networking in both business and personal uses.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is similar to a Facebook, but it’s not for socializing, it’s strictly business.  LinkedIn helps you create links to help your business career.  LinkedIn helps you connect with other people and exchange ideas, knowledge, and opportunities with a broad network of professionals.  You can use your connections to meet other people.  It makes job hunting a little easier.  Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.  Users can now follow different companies and can get notification about the new joining and offers available.  On the site you can post a resume for others to see. When you use LinkedIn you can ask your connections (friends and colleagues who you can trust) for solid feedback on different companies.  LinkedIn can be compared to a road map.  You are driving a car to a destination and you need a way to get there successfully; LinkedIn is that road map, only the road you’re on is your career.  LinkedIn can be used for finding Investors, Marketing, and other stuff.  There really are not too many reasons to use LinkedIn other than for business.  For any other person to use it would be pointless.  This isn’t for socializing; this is a way to organize your colleagues and friends to help benefit your career.  LinkedIn can really help the modern day business man or woman in achieving a successful career.  LinkedIn is a good idea in my opinion.  You could be connected with a friend who you did not know is connected with a CEO of a major corporation looking for help in your field of expertise. Now it’s as simple as getting your connection to introduce you to an employer.  LinkedIn can help a lot of people and should be used by more business men and women.  After college I think LinkedIn would be a good idea to use it could potentially help me get a job that will make me a very successful person.

Twitter

Twitter is something that helps people communicate with each other instantly.  It’s like a Facebook.  You have a page of what are closely similar to wall posts.  Twitter has many different uses, although like every other social network it can be abused; however at the same time it is very useful.  Twitter can be used for business.  There are various apps through Twitter that helps you use Twitter to help your business.  Twitter was invented to answer the question “What are you doing?”  However When Twittering for a business does that really matter? No, it doesn’t.  Twitter is a great way to get opinions.  It’s a great way to spread your ideas as well.  You could market your business to other people.  Twitter also has its positives and negatives.  Twitter can be very distracting. You could be in a big meeting and have the one guy not paying attention to a word your saying because he’s on Tweeting.  It is extremely easy to tweet with phones, computers, and now Ipods and Ipads, so there could be a certain someone not paying attention when he should be because he is tweeting.  Without strategy it’s really just typing.  If you plan to use this for your business you need to have a strategy for it.  Twitter can also be used as news feed.  Some people could witness something really amazing and want to share it with everyone.  Using Twitter you can follow what ever you want.  You can use Twitter to follow your favorite bands, athlete’s movie stars, you name it; you can follow who ever you want.  I personally am big into music and I could see myself using Twitter to follow musicians and learn about upcoming gigs and new music.

BCA 1st blog

It's the friday before Halloween and I'm sitting in a computer lab typing my very first blog.  Im a Highschool Senior and I plan to go to college for music next year.  Im a huge Switchfoot, Rise Against, and Foo Fighter fan even though the sound absolutely nothing like each other.  I play Ice Hockey and Baseball, and I hope to continue playing them at the college level, at least on a club team even if it is not high competition.  So that's all I got...
